How do you know if your remodeling project has given you the energy savings that you hope for? In order to calculate savings you need prior baselines. Baselines can come in the form of monthly energy bills or a blower door baseline. Blower door tests provide you with areas of the house that are not airtight. Windows, doors, and attic spaces are just a few of the areas that are identified. You also can do an infrared wall test. This can show you the area inside the walls that are low on insulation. These tests will give you a good baseline. Once the remodeling work has been done these tests can be rerun to see how much of an improvement has been made.
